Applejacks Appalachian Dancers

Applejacks Appalachian Dancers

Applejacks dance the exciting, percussive style of the Appalachian Mountains of the south-eastern United States. The dances, all original compositions, employ traditional stepping, danced with metal shod shoes on a wooden floor reflecting the hob nailed work shoes of the early settlers.

Based in north Bristol, Applejacks are drawn together by a love of the ‘Old Tyme’ mountain music which accompanies the dances and a universal determination to ignore the fact that most of us are far too old to be doing anything so energetic.  People say we really look as though we’re enjoying ourselves when we dance. This is true but the maniacal grin is, in fact, an effort to ignore the creaking knees and screaming hamstrings.

As the great Ira Bernstein said of Applejacks.

"Er, who?”
